Chain of custody
Downloaded from the agency's own publication page, where it has sat continuously since 2008. This newspaper obtained nothing that was not already public and had to ask nobody for anything. We are filing it because a document being public is not the same as a document being read, and this one has been public and unread for eighteen years.

Excerpt
COMMENT 217 — submitted by a member of the public. Measurement of the roofline from the public video gives an acceleration of 9.81 m/s2 over approximately 2.25 seconds. The draft states the descent was not at free-fall acceleration. The draft is incorrect. RESPONSE — The analysis has been revised. The final report describes three stages of descent. Stage 2, of approximately 2.25 seconds, is at gravitational acceleration and is consistent with the collapse sequence described in Chapter 12.
Transcribed by the data desk. Line breaks follow the original. Bracketed matter is ours.
Editor's note
Filed because both loud accounts of this event omit half of it. One omits the response's first sentence and one omits its last. Read whole, it is a record of a federal agency being told by a member of the public that it was wrong, checking, and saying so in print before publication.
